Investigation ongoing

At around noon today, the Oneida County Sheriff’s Office Road Patrol was dispatched to the Westmoreland Middle School in Westmoreland after a tattered note was found in a restroom with a concerning message on it. A Deputy Sheriff assigned to the school district as a School Resource Officer (SRO), along with school staff, immediately put their emergency plan into action. Within minutes, additional law enforcement members and K-9’s from the Sheriff’s Office, the New York State Police, and the Utica Police assisted with a complete sweep of the building with nothing being found.

At no time were students in any danger and this investigation is ongoing by the Sheriff’s Office Criminal Investigation Unit. If anyone has information regarding this incident, they are asked to contact Investigator Justin Copperwheat at315-765-2767.
