Motor vehicle accident

According to Oneida County Sheriff Robert Maciol the Sheriff's Office investigated an accident on Route 49 at the Route 12 Exit. Deputies responded to the scene at 3:10 PM and found a tractor trailer overturned onto its driver side. The tractor trailer driver, Jeffery Chalmers, sustained miner injures to his hands and arms as a result of the crash. Mr Chalmers stated he was driving in the left lane of Route 49 when he noticed he was about to pass the exit. He attempted to turn onto the exit crossing over three lanes of travel at a high rate of speed and lost control. Mr Chalmers was cited for unsafe speed and moving from a lane unsafely. The Sheriff's Office was assisted by Maynard FD and the NYSDOT. Due to the accident one lane of Route 49 and the Route 12 Exit were closed for several hours in an attempted to remove the tractor trailer.
