According to Oneida County Sheriff Robert Maciol on October 18, 2018 at about 3:30 PM deputies responded to the scene of a personal injury motor vehicle collision at the intersection of State Route 365 and West 11th Street in the Town of Vernon.

Deputies reported that a 2010 Subaru being operated by Samirah Shehadeh, 33 of Rome, was traveling northeasterly on State Route 365 when Shehadeh failed to move over for a United States Postal Service Delivery Truck being operated by Joseph Walpole, 49 of Oneida, resulting in Shehadeh’s vehicle colliding with the rear of the Mail Delivery Truck. At the time of the collision the Mail Delivery Truck was stopped at a mailbox on the eastern shoulder of the road with its amber warning lights activated.

Shehadeh was transported via Vineall Ambulance to Rome Murphy Memorial Hospital where she was treated for minor injuries.

Shehadeh was issued a traffic citation for Failure to Exercise Due Care Upon Approaching a Special Hazard Vehicle commonly referred to as New York States Move Over Law.

Deputies were assisted at the scene by members of the Vernon Fire Department and Vineall Ambulance Service.
