According to Oneida County Sheriff Robert Maciol; On Tuesday May 8, 2018, a New Hartford man was injured in a 2 vehicle motor vehicle accident. At around 9:31 PM, Deputies responded to the accident on State Route 31 in the Town of Verona.

An investigation into the accident reviled that Jason Defelice, 36, of Durhamville was driving a 2007 Chevrolet pickup truck that was towing a trailer, southerly on State Route 31. Defleice missed the turn for Germany Road and began backing the vehicle and trailer northerly on Route 31. The trailer that was being towed jackknifed sideways in the southern lane of Route 31.

William Monahan, 54, of New Hartford was driving a 2003 Honda sedan southerly on State Route 31 and was unable to see the sideways trailer, striking the driver’s side of the trailer.

During the collision, Monahan received apparent minor injuries and was transported by Vineall Ambulance to St. Elizabeth’s Hospital for further evaluation. No other individuals received injuries from the accident.

Defelice was issued a traffic ticket for unsafe backing, which is returnable to Verona Town Court at a later date.

The Oneida County Sheriff’s Office was assisted on scene by Verona Fire Department and Vineall Ambulance.
