According to Sheriff Robert Maciol, a Poland man was seriously injured after the pickup he was driving struck a tree.

Terry E. Mayer 53, of North Gage Rd, was operating his 2005 pickup north on Walker Rd in the Town of Deerfield. According to civilian witnesses, Mayer was operating his vehicle erratically striking mailboxes on the shoulder of the north lane. As Mayer continued to drive from the scene of the mailbox incident, his vehicle crossed into the south lane leaving the roadway striking a tree in a residential yard.

Mayer was treated at the scene by members of the Deerfield Fire Department and Kunkel Ambulance. He was then transported to St Elizabeth's Hospital with head and chest injuries.

Based on investigation of the accident Mayer, was charged with DWAI/Drugs and Operating with a Revoked license, misdemeanors. No insurance, unregistered vehicle, switched plates, unlicensed, failed to keep right, leaving the scene of a property damage accident and consuming alcohol in a motor vehicle traffic infractions. He will answer the charges at a later date in the Town of Deerfield
