Fuel Tanker involved in 2 Car MVA - Town of Paris

According to Oneida County Sheriff Robert Maciol, a tractor trailer pulling a fuel tank was struck by another motor vehicle while hauling approximately 7500 gallons of diesel fuel on Route 8 in the Town of Paris.

At about 8:40 am on Tuesday, February 6, 2018, a 2007 Dodge Taxi Van operated by James Newey, 44 of Rome, was traveling northbound on State Route 8 in the Town of Paris when he lost control of his vehicle, pulling him into southbound traffic. Newey was unable to correct his vehicle before striking the rear portion of the tractor trailer hauling diesel fuel. Although the trailer sustained significant damage, no fluids were released from the vehicle.

Unsafe speed and slippery road conditions were determine to be contributing factors in the accident. No injuries were reported at the time of the accident.

Newey was issued a traffic ticket for failure to maintain lane which is returnable to Town of Paris Court at a later date.

Assisting on scene were members of the State Police, NYS DOT, Clayville and Cassville Volunteer Fire Departments.
