According to Oneida County Sheriff Robert M. Maciol, on Saturday, March 03, 2018 at about 8:40 P.M., Deputies responded to State Route 20 in the Town of Sangerfield for a reported personal injury motor vehicle accident. The investigation into the accident determined that Charles Bumpus, 36, of Ilion, was operating a blue 2011 Mitsubishi in an easterly direction on State Route 20, when he suffered a non-life threatening medical emergency, causing him to lose consciousness. Bumpus exited the south shoulder of the roadway, subsequently striking a snow embankment, causing the vehicle to overturn before coming to a rest in the eastbound lane. Jessica Smith, 36, also of Ilion, was a passenger in the vehicle at the time of the accident. Both Bumpus and Smith were transported to St. Lukes Hospital for an evaluation of non-life-threatening injuries.

Sheriff’s Deputies were assisted on scene by the New York State Police, members of the Waterville Fire Department, Central Oneida County Ambulance, and Bridgewater Ambulance.
