According to Oneida County Sheriff Robert Maciol; On March 31st, 2018 at approximately 7:52PMDeputies responded to State Route 46 in the Town of Western for a single car motor vehicle accident resulting in an injury.

An investigation revealed that Peter Gilbert, 55 of Port Leyden was driving a 2003 Ford Escape southbound on State Route 46 when a deer entered the roadway from the eastern shoulder. Gilbert was unable to avoid the deer and struck the deer with the left front fender causing heavy front end damage.

A 14 year old passenger was transported by AmCare Ambulance to Rome Memorial Hospital where they were treated for minor injuries. The Oneida County Sheriff's Office was assisted on scene by the Western Volunteer Fire Department and AmCare Ambulance.
