According to Sheriff Robert M. Maciol, a Poland man was injured Wednesday afternoon at about 2:30 pm in a personal watercraft accident in the New York State Barge Canal near Oneida Lake in the Sylvan Beach area. The Sheriff's Office Marine Unit was on duty at the time and arrived shortly after the call came out.

Daniel T. Monohan, 56 of Utica was operating a Yamaha Jet Ski when he hit a wave and collided with a Sea-doo Jet Ski that was being operated by Thomas V. Yost, 36, of Poland, NY. The two jet skis were being operated side by side when the accident took place. All tickets are returnable in the Town of Verona Court on a later date.

Monohan was issued tickets for reckless operation, no boater safety certificate and other equipment violations.

Yost was transported by Vineall Ambulance to St. Elizabeth's Hospital in Utica with facial injuries.

The accident remains under investigation and more tickets may be issued.

The Sheriff's Office was assisted at the scene by the Sylvan Beach Fire Department and the New York State Police.
