According to Oneida County Chief Deputy Mike Purdy, who is the Director of the Oneida County Child Advocacy Center, a Rome man has been charged in connection with having sexual contact with an underage female child.

Oneida County Sheriff's Investigator Mark R. Chrysler began the investigation in July of 2018, and learned that the crime occurred earlier that same month. Over the course of the next 4 months, enough evidence was collected to charge Joshua J. Sherman, age 26 of Rome, for having sexual intercourse with a 15 year old female.

On October 15, 2018, Rome Police Detective Ed D'Alesandro and Investigator Chrysler located Sherman in Rome and arrested him without incident for Rape in the 3rd Degree, a class E Felony. Sherman was held at Rome City lockup while he awaited his arraignment.

An order of protection was issued to protect the victim, who has also been offered services through the Child Advocacy Center.
