Westmoreland middle school threat update

According to Sheriff Robert M. Maciol, on 03/07/2018 at approximately 12:00 PM, the Oneida County Sheriff’s Office responded to the Westmoreland Middle School regarding a note containing a concerning message. Through a collaborative investigation with the Westmoreland School District a suspect was developed and on 03/16/2018 a juvenile was arrested. An eleven year old Westmoreland Middle School Student was charged with Falsely Reporting an Incident in the second degree, a Class E Felony and Criminal Nuisance in the second degree, a Class B Misdemeanor. During the investigation it was discovered that the juvenile’s reasoning for writing the note was partly due to several other area news reports regarding school threats. The case will be forwarded to Oneida County Juvenile Probation for further action.
