According to Oneida County Sheriff Robert Maciol, on May 20, 2019 at around 6:30 PM, there was a single car motor vehicle accident reporting personal injury on the Erie Boulevard East exit ramp in the City of Rome. The vehicle involved was a 2017, red Kia, 4 door sedan. The operator of the involved vehicle was Shery Varghese age 37 from Syracuse, NY. Varghese was traveling west bound on State Route 49 when he attempted to merge to the Erie Boulevard East exit ramp to the city of Rome. Varghese stated as he was changing lanes a small animal entered the roadway. Varghese swerved and collided with a guide rail end which resulted in his vehicle to overturn several times before coming to rest on its roof. Varghese was transported to Rome Memorial Hospital by Am- Care Ambulance for evaluation. Rome Fire Department also was present and assisted on scene. Varghese was issued a ticket for changing lane unsafely returnable at Rome Court on a later date.
