An inmate at the Oneida County Jail has been arrested for assaulting an officer.

According to Oneida County Sheriff Robert Maciol, a corrections officer was conducting a cell search of inmate Derrick Snell’s cell when the inmate became unruly. Snell was yelling obscenities and becoming aggressive. The officer called for another officer to assist, and when the other officer arrived he tried to secure Snell, but Snell grabbed for the officer and began fighting. While trying to secure Snell, Snell continued to fight with officers and one of the officers suffered a fractured leg. The officer was transported to Rome Memorial Hospital where he was treated and released.

Sheriff’s Investigators have charged Derrick T. Snell 25 of Rome with Assault in the second degree, a class D felony. Snell was arraigned in the Centralized Arraignment Court. Bail was set at $25,00 cash or $30,000 bond. He was remanded to the correctional facility and will return to court at a later date.
