According to Oneida County Sheriff Robert M. Maciol, on the 9th of February 2024, Oneida County Corrections Officers were conducting a routine search of the facility to include the contracted food services within the facility. During the search Corrections Officers searched the belongings and persons of Hannah Guernsey, 23 of Warners, and Zachary Held, 25 of Rome, and it was found that both parties had electronic smoking devices on their person while working inside the correctional facility, which is considered prison contraband. The investigation was turned over to the Road Patrol and on the 15th of February 2024 Guernsey and Held were arrested and charged with Promoting Prison Contraband in the second degree, a Class A misdemeanor. Guernsey and Held were processed at the Law Enforcement Building and both issued an appearance ticket returnable to Whitestown Court on a later date.
