Motor vehicle accident

According to Oneida County Sheriff Robert Maciol; On Saturday February 24, 2018 a Bay Shore, NY woman was injured in a single vehicle accident on Beacon Light Road in the Town of Verona. At around 10:14 PM, Sheriff’s Deputies responded to the accident on Beacon Light Road and through their investigation into the accident, it was discovered that Alicia Ashton, 21, of Bay Shore, NY was driving a 2010 Toyota Prius southerly on Beacon light Road, when an uninvolved vehicle attempted to pass Ashton at a high rate of speed in a no passing zone. Ashton attempted to slow down and pull to the right to avoid a collision with the vehicle and did not realize her vehicle was traveling off of the roadway. Ashton attempted to correct the vehicle but was unable to do so.

Ashton’s vehicle traveled off of the right/western shoulder of the roadway and overturned. Ashton was able to escape the vehicle with only apparent minor injuries, which were attributed to her seatbelt use. Ashton was transported by Vineall Ambulance to Oneida City Hospital for further evaluation.

The Oneida County Sheriff’s Office was assisted on scene by the Verona Fire Department and Vineall Ambulance.
